    Dear fellow Masteroni,

Only recently I published a monograph for the German Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (http://www.fes.de) entitled

“A Call for Constructive Engagement – Observations on the Prospects for Myanmar-EU Relations”, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, December 2009, ISBN 978-3-86872-251-2, 79 pages, http://www.networkmyanmar.org/images/stories/PDF3/fes.pdf

The book was made for the audience in Burma/Myanmar (thus the specific language!) and it:

    • attempts to reconcile the different historical perceptions between the EU and Burma/Myanmar,
    • explains the way in which the EU works and how it could “work out” for Burma/Myanmar,
    • discusses some of the issues concerning the EU often raised by Burmese/Myanmar officials and
    • gives concrete suggestions of potential joint projects, in line with the Millennium Development Goals, the EU Common Position and Myanmar Constitution.

During our work in the country, we often felt that there is a basic lack of understanding about the EU, its principles and actions. Where there is no understanding, there is no respect and no impact- all prerequisites for change.

In addition, I was the (hard/content) editor of the brilliant study by Timo Kivimäki and Paul Pasch, The Dynamics of Conflict in the Multiethnic Union of Myanmar. Peace and Conflict Impact Assessment- Country conflict-analysis studies”, FES, October 2009, Bonn. You can download it at http://library.fes.de/pdf-files/iez/07155.pdf. It is exciting reading for anyone interested in the conflict(s) in Burma/Myanmar, as well as conflicts in general.

    Your feedback in appreciated!

    Happy reading!

    Warmest regards,

    Marina
