The purpose of the UNESCO/Bilbao Prize for the Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights is to reward the efforts of institutions, organizations and individuals that have made a particularly important and effective contribution to the promotion of a culture of human rights at regional and international levels.
Officially only Member States of UNESCO ( in consultation with their National Commissions) and NGOs maintaining formal relations with UNESCO are allowed to submit nominations. However, sound nominations of other NGOs might be considered as well. In the latter case it is recommended, however, to seek beforehand the support of a NGO maintaining formal relations with UNESCO (see the list: http://erc.unesco.org/ong/ONGlist_p.asp?language=F) or your country’s National Commission for UNESCO ( http://portal.unesco.org/en/ev.php-URL_ID=34279&URL_DO=DO_TOPIC&URL_SECTION=201.html).
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS 8 SEPTEMBER 2010.
The 2010 award ceremony will be held in Bilbao on 10 December 2010 – Human Rights Day.
