Short-Term International Electoral Observers: Call for Application

Still few places available. Deadline 15 October 2013

EIUC has developed two complementary but independent modules in order to give interested candidates a first but thorough introduction to election observation monitoring system.

The first module will address international observation theory and legal standards and will analyse the practical life of a short-term observer from pre-mission to end of mission activities. The second module is a complementary step for those participants who have attended the first module or the 2012 edition of EIUC training for international observers and will analyse in depth some of the aspects related to an international observation mission. First-time applicants will also be accepted.

EIUC will accept candidatures for each separate module or both combined. Applicants will therefore have a possibility to choose the module which is more closely related to their interests and experience or combine the two of them for a more complete understanding of the topic.

The faculty is composed by well-known international trainers and professionals with a long standing practical experience in election observation missions within international organisations such as the European Union and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The programme is run by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation which is an international leading centre for research and education.

Open and legitimate elections are the indispensable foundation for sustainable development and an effective democracy and actions supporting the right to participate in genuine elections can play a major role in sustaining peace, security and conflict prevention. Support takes the form of electoral assistance projects and election observation missions. This requires skilled and trained observers.

Lectures are conceived for an audience of graduates mainly in Law, Political Sciences, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, Anthropology or similar who want to address international election observation from a multi-disciplinary approach that will be useful in further engagements on the field.

Interested candidates should submit their application before 15 October 2013 by compiling the online application form.
